Client: Minnesota State University Moorhead - 1992

Project Overview:
I'm digging this one out of the archives. This is a project I worked on while in college at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM). While it was a student project for a television production class, this ad remains one of my favorites yet today.

For this assignment, our production group had to develop, produce and present a 30-second public service announcement. Our group thought we should attempt to produce a PSA that had high production value. We came up with producing a PSA for the American Heart Association to encourage CPR training.

My Role in Project:
Since I had been working at the Minnesota State University Moorhead Television Production Center for a couple of years by this time, I had many hours of shooting and editing experience. Once our group had decided on a PSA, we developed the production approach we would need to take to make this assignment an A.

I had access to a camera that had a 'gain-up' effect feature that would make the video strobe-like in addition to making it grainy. We thought this effect would create a certain urgency. We also shot the majority of the ad in black and white except for the last shot, which is in color.

I shot and edited the ad along with my production group. we hired my hometown ambulance service and also two actors from college as the husband and wife. The music is an original work by a MSUM student we asked to create specifically for this project.

For those of you who are wondering, we received the 'A'.
