Client: Minnesota
State University Moorhead Music Industry Department/Minnesota State University
Moorhead Television Production Center, 1993. Project Overview:
In the late-1980s to mid-1990s, the Minnesota State University Moorhead
Music Industry Department was at its best. The Music Industry Program
was a leader among programs in comparable schools. Under the direction
of Mike Coates, the department produced a dozen live concerts, including
A Tribute to Pink Floyd, Scary Monsters of Rock and You Say
You Want a Revolution, among many others, which the Television Production
Center produced for television broadcast. In addition to live
concerts, the Music Industry Program also produced an annual CD called
Dragontracks, a release of original music by Music Industry students.
It is this project where the music video Body was developed.
Each year, the students
who collaborated on the release of Dragontracks determined which track
was voted 'Best of Album.' With this designation, the artist would then
have the opportunity to collaborate with the MSUM Television Production
Center crew (Bob Schieffer and myself) to produce a music video of the
track. Body
is the original composition of Eric Lehrke.
My Role in
the Project:
I was the lead photographer and assistant editor of Body while
I was a student at MSUM. My Comments
Body provided a concept where I could really be creative with
the camera for the very first time. We elected to use a grainy, high contrast,
black and white look to the project and we could control in all of the
locations of our project. This was also a project
were I built a special camera dolly cart to accomplish the shots I had
in mind at the church location. This is where I learned how to weld! |
